Eating Red Peppers Curbs Appetite

Having moderate amounts of red pepper helps control appetite as well as burn more fat after a meal. Red peppers work especially for people who don’t normally have the popular spice.

Dietary changes that do not call for too much effort to implement, such as pepping up your meal with red pepper, may be sustainable & beneficial in the long term, more so when coupled with exercise & healthy eating.

Capsaicin, the component responsible for giving chili peppers their kick, could ease hunger and up energy expenditure – burning up calories.

Cayenne’s a chili pepper that’s quite a commonly consumed spice in most parts of the world. Most chili peppers have capsaicin.

Red pepper ought to be had in a non-capsule form as the taste or the sensory experience helps maximize the digestive process.

Too Much TV Narrows Blood Vessels in Kids’ Eyes

Kids spending too much time glued to televisions or computer screens, and far less time outdoors, have narrowed retinal vessels.

An Australian study reveals that children who spent a lot of time watching television had slightly smaller blood vessels in their eyes in comparison to other physically active kids.

Children who daily spent over an hour outdoors had wider blood vessels than those who had the least exercise.

What this means for kids is still unknown.

Changes to retinal vessels are an indicator of what’s happening in the rest of your body, especially the heart. Now, in adults, narrower retinal arteries suggest increased risk of high blood pressure & cardiovascular disease.

Parents ought to be aware that it’s not the amount of computer or television time that affects the size of blood vessels. Rather, it’s a lack of exercise – a sedentary lifestyle results in health problems at such a tender age.

Morning Heart Attacks More Serious

Heart attacks which take place in the morning hours are of a more serious nature than attacks that occur at any other time of the day.

Spanish researchers studied data of 811 patients who suffered a myocardial infarction during 2003 to 2009. They used blood enzyme levels for measuring the infract (extent of the dead tissue), which is caused due to the blood supply to the heart muscle being cut off.

269 of the 811 cardiac patients suffered an attack in the morning between 6:00 a.m. & noon, during the changeover from darkness to light, and had a 21% larger infarct than patients whose attack happened between 6:00 p.m. & midnight.

The study supports previous evidence that the circadian rhythm, i.e. the body clock, affects the heart in several ways like heart rate, blood pressure, cardiac output & functioning of cells lining the cardiac blood vessels.

The findings can be of help in determining how effective drugs are against heart disease.

A Hot Bath On A Chilly Day Bad For the Heart

On a cold, blustery wintry day, wouldn’t you just love to take a warm, relaxing bath? Well, think again! Having a hot bath in a cold day spells trouble for your heart.

Kyoto Prefectural University researchers have found that relaxing in a hot tub leads to rapid drop in blood pressure, which puts mild stress on the heart. They discovered that there was 10 times greater risk of cardiac arrests while bathing in winter months than in the summer.

For bathers, health risk relied on outside temperatures, with colder days causing more cardiac arrests.

Preventive steps like warming a bathroom & hallway or not taking a long, hot bath may be important in case of high risk people.

In Japan, hot baths are quite important as traditional homes aren’t as well-insulated like in Western countries & central heating is rare. For recreation, thousands go to the country’s many hot springs.
