Johnson & Johnson Recalls Tylenol Products

Pharma major Johnson & Johnson has issued another recall notice for its Tylenol products following consumer complaints of a musty, moldy odor.

The company announced the voluntary recall of 60,912 bottles of Tylenol Extra Strength pain relief medicine.

In the last 2 years, over 100 million Johnson & Johnson products have been recalled rendering it all the more difficult to find Tylenol, Benadryl, Motrin and Sudafed on drugstore shelves.

The generic names of Tylenol include Paracetamol & Acetaminophen. Tylenol is an analgesic medicine that’s widely prescribed by physicians. Tylenol is used to bring down fever & for providing temporary relief from minor aches & pains

The moldy odor is mostly likely because of trace amounts of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA). While exposure to TBA doesn’t seem to cause any health risks, some people could experience temporary stomach upset.

The recall affects one lot – ABA619 – of Tylenol pain killers, manufactured in February 2009. The bottles carry the label: Tylenol Extra Strength Caplets, 225 count.

It has a UPC code of 300450444271.

Consumers having the recalled Tylenol products are advised not to take the pain reliever & to contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare (888-222-6036, www.tylenol.com) for instructions regarding receiving a refund or product coupon.
